COMMENT/CAUTION:  Wonderful wild edible! Use in salads and stews. Tastes great raw, but can also be cooked. CAUTION:  Contains saponins and oxalic acid.  To minimize both, boil with lid off. It's a close relative of Quinoa.(12)

OTHER USES: Dye;  Soap. A green dye is obtained from the young shoots. The crushed fresh roots are a mild soap substitute(1).
